Hello Everyone,
I want to start by saying I hope you’re doing OK! Take a moment to just breathe.... Is your head ready to explode? How many cups of wine have you drank? Or are you on a treadmill just exercising your stress away? Every teacher is normally a planner, someone who loves to spend all their summer planning for the upcoming school year. You choose your theme, decorations and centers. You probably even envisioned how your class would look and which way desks/furniture will be set up. But this 2020 has been a mess, many educators didn't even know how to plan for it. It has been a roller coaster of emotions as counties/districts made decisions to go face-to-face, hybrid model or fully online.
Being an ESE teacher is one of the hardest jobs in the education world. I am not saying that the rest of the positions are not valuable but SPED educators will work with the most intense, vulnerable and complex students. ESE students in special programs do not just follow directions and understand social cues. It is a job that requires extensive front load work, lots of preparations, endless work hours (most unpaid & unappreciated) and always thinking outside the box making your imagination explore unimaginable things and/or ideas!
